Top Features of Spark 3

Just like other Tecno products, there are a few features that stand out which you might want to consider before.

Nothing is more disappointing in a mobile phone than one that slows you down – unresponsive UI (User Interface). It’s never a good experience. If you’ve had this pain before, then you must be looking for a phone that is fast and responsive.

If so, let’s run through the performance rating of Tecno Spark 3. It is built on a 2.0 GHz quad-core processor of MediaTek design and functionality. Combining with the 1GB/2GB RAM, this device supports seamless multiple operations.

However, the 1GB variant of the device presents the problem of freezing operations for a few seconds if you run several processes simultaneously. Nevertheless, it’s performance is excellent and supports modern operational needs at appreciable speeds.

Similarly, Tecno built this device on Android 9 Pie which is known for optimisation, efficiency, security, and performance. More to it is that Spark 3 runs on HiOS 5.0 that delivers excellent user experience, interactivity, automation, and aesthetic splendour.

The combination of the powerful CPU, RAM and performance-driven OS, delivers a faster, seamless and stronger smartphone experience. Carry out operations with the assurance that there are features within the device to deliver healthy results.

Power Management

Well, managing your device’s power, is something tasking. It’s even worse if the backup is bad and does not support long hours of usage without top-up. As a result, you need a device with not just a durable battery, but one with efficient power management.

Spark 3 performs nicely in providing the power you need to carry out your daily activities – streaming videos, making phones, sending emails, chatting on social media and lots more. A number of features combine to improve the performance of the built-in 3500mAh battery. And this is largely boosted by the OS.

Features such as adaptive brightness, background apps’ control, cooling effect, Network/connectivity Control, among others ensure the continuous supply of power to the device.  The only quirk in this remains the battery capacity which is slightly below a few other brands of smartphones.

Operating System

Previously, I briefly highlighted a few features of the Operating System that power the operations of this device. I will now improve on the list to give you a glimpse of what this version of Android offers.

It’s a powerful combination of Android 9 Pie and Tecno’s UX-based HiOS. Both software complements each other to deliver amazing user experience, optimise performance and improve efficiency.

Particularly, Android 9 Pie delivers all-round system improvements encompassing privacy control, physical and behind the scene security, speed, productive small-size apps, effective file management and AI-enhanced interactions.

Since Google considers users’ experience a priority, they developed this OS to reflect what their renown search engine serves users – seamlessness.

On the other hand, HiOS takes up the interactivity, appearance and overall layout/design of the OS by syncing wonderfully with this Android version. Users of Tecno HiOS clearly support the fact that the theme and launcher make everything beautiful and easy to use.

Who’s Tecno Spark 3 for?

In case you’re at crossroads on whether this phone is for you or not, let me assist in making a decision. In addition to the specifications, this smartphone integrates that aren’t meant for everyone.
For instance, if you travel a lot over long distances/days, and as a result do not have time to top-up the power, this device might not meet up with demands. You will need a good power bank to run the course properly.

This doesn’t mean that the power of this device is bad. It only implies that the 3500mAh can’t withstand the rigorous demands. Nevertheless, Spark 3’s battery meets basic power requirements you can think.

More so, if you’re a phot lover, social media fan who regularly needs quality photos and selfies to share with friends, then this smartphone gives just what you want. It may not be 24MP but the dual rear AI cameras complete the job to give natural and clear photos/videos.

Finally, it’s a phone that is readily available on a low budget. So, you don’t have to break the bank to get one.

In summary, this phone is for you if you:

  • are a photo-lover,
  • have low funds to spend on a mobile phone
  • value speed, modern OS and responsiveness.

Expert Review of Tecno Spark 3

Security is important and it’s no surprise that Tecno considered its relevance in developing this mobile phone. Spark 3 incorporates a few security features – notably, modern technologies –to provide stiffer security. Notable among them are the Face ID Sensor, Fingerprint and privacy control.
Face ID sensor

There is a fully functional Face ID Sensor that allows users to easily unlock their device by scanning their faces. This uses AI to match facial patterns with initial set up to help confirm similarities. The major role of this sensor is to prevent physical access by unauthorised persons.
Fingerprint Sensor

With the fingerprint sensor, you can easily record calls, browse photos, and do a few other things. Additionally, it solidifies the security of the device. The sensor is position at the rear a few millimetres from the top of the device.

It is perfectly positioned to allow for ease of use with just a single finger to unlock the device at any time.

Other Security Features
In addition to the Face and Fingerprint sensors, there are other security features that combine to strengthen the security of the device.  Users can set up PINs, Patterns, use Smart Lock, grant permissions to apps, and create accounts for recovering a lost device.

Also, the OS integrates several security features across many points. Google Play protect, privacy control, request for permission and others hinder unauthorised accessed to private information and functionalities.

Spark 3 presents a unique appeal with visual traits that improve UX (User Experience) and ease of use.  Tecno has carved both the design and display to reflect elegance. Let’s see how they’ve designed the appearance of this phone.

The 2D design of this device has about 15mm curves at the edges allowing a light-effected glow on them. It’s 155.3mm x 75.8mm in size with a thickness of 8.5mm. At that thickness, it’s somewhat heavier than recent modern mobiles phone, e.g. Camon X pro.

However, it’s 155.3mm height hinders smooth one-hand operation, though a utility – one-hand – can be activated to allow for such operations.

Tecno Spark 3 comes in 4 colour variants of Black, Gold, wine, and Blue.
The rear cameras are nicely fitted on away from the top-left but placed to improve capturing of photos and videos.

Tecno Spark 3 presents a modern device screen with a resolution of 720x 1500 pixels at 268 PPI density. Its viewport supports modern requirements and standards for viewing web resources, playing games and streaming videos.

The screen touch is of HD+ IPS LCD Display, thus, rendering quality imagery and graphics. The display ratio fits nicely into the full stretched viewport.

One thing that keeps eluding Tecno phones is the absence of seamless glass protection which provides ‘insurance’ against cracks from sudden fall. However, this can be bought by the users to deliver the same functionality.

Tecno Spark 3 has two rear AI-powered cameras and a front camera for capturing photos and recording videos at will. These cameras and other utilities are reviewed below.
Rear Camera

This device includes dual cameras at the rear combined to deliver a 15MP effect – the main camera is 13MP, while the complementing camera is 2MP. The 13MP camera is powered by AI a ring flash that augments photo quality.

Also, it integrates functionalities such as touch focus, face detection and Autofocus for delivering quality videos and photos.

However, the rear camera is no match for a few other Tecno phones such as the Camon brands with excellent camera features. Nevertheless, it produces clear, natural and beautiful graphics (both videos and photos) and effects (where and when necessary).

Front Camera
With this device, users can capture selfies of 8MP and quality videos. The front camera captures photos at a focal length of 2.1/f with a screen flash to improve lighting.

Photo Quality and Video Quality
Photos taken with this device are worth the shot as they are real and to details. At 13MP, one can capture photos at 4160 x 3120 pixels (ratio 4:3) and a minimum of 4MP at 1920 x 1920 (ratio 1:1).

There is a high rendering of videos at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1088 pixels and a minimum of 640 x 480pixels. Video formats are majorly saved as mp4 for easy sharing.

Though the camera delivers quality photo and video, it’s, however, off-the-grade when compared to modern demands for an ideal camera phone.

Most importantly here, Tecno Spark 3 comes with excellent power management and durability that supports long shifts without a charge. It has a non-removable Li-ion Polymer battery at a capacity of 3500mAh.

The device has no support for fast or wireless charging. However, it’s battery performance guarantees long-lasting hours of heavy usage. More so, it fully supports periodic charging by the accompanying USB power cable and charger.

Likewise, the OS, and hardware are fully optimised to manage battery effectively and efficiently. Thus, prolonging the battery life and avoiding embarrassing low battery alerts during heavy use.

Tecno Spark 3 ProcessorFeatures

Speed is crucial in user experience and at the core of it, is the processor that controls and manages the various processes and functionalities.

This spark brand of Tecno integrates a high-performance processor. It’s MediaTek MT6580 Quad-Core processor runs operations at an excellent speed of 2.0GHz/1.3GHz.

Though the processing speed is top-class for a phone of this grade, it’s performance is minutely dented by the RAM sizes of the variants. Notably, the 1GB RAM variant presents niggling concerns during heavy use – heavy apps such as games seem to freeze once on several occasions.

Overall, for its grade and price tag, Tecno Spark 3 delivers excellently and smoothly.

Tecno launched two variants of this smartphone and the differences are only obvious with the storage sizes and processors’ ratings.

The first variant integrates a RAM of 1GB with a ROM of 16GB, while the second variant has a RAM of 2GB and 16GB ROM. Both allow for an upgrade with a micro SD Card (memory card) of up to 64GB.

For an ideal phone these days, one can consider the ROM as being too small to store all the numerous resources and files we save on the move. However, the bailout factor is the ability to expand the storage capacity with a memory card.

Also, the 1GB RAM might infringe on smooth and faster processing, especially when the processor handles several processes at the same time. This generally slows down a few functionalities and freezes heavy applications.

There is support for dual slots of nano-SIMs for calls, messaging and internet connectivity. Network features include support for GSM (2G bands) and HSDPA (3G bands), at speeds of 42.2Mbps and 5.76 Mbps.

Somehow, Tecno did not provide support for 4G bands which, of course, provides faster internet speeds. Still, the 3G band networks provide good internet speed for surfing the net, chatting on social media platforms and more.

Sharing files and resources is quite simple and Spark 3 integrates connectivity functions - some of which allow users to establish PAN/WPAN, LAN/WLAN for data & file sharing.

It comes with Bluetooth version 5.0, Wi-Fi Direct, USB port version 2.0, and Wi-Fi Hotspot. Though there’s no support for NFC, the above connectivity features grant users the ability to share resources with other devices.

For instance, the Wi-Fi Hotspot allows the phone to create a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) of at most 8 users for resource sharing.

These days, there are several sensors to keep an eye on in a smartphone. Notably, Fingerprint and Face ID sensors.

As a result, Tecno did not disappoint in this as they integrated both sensors into the development of Spark 3. Both sensors combine to beef-up security and prevent unauthorized access to information. They’re equally easy to set up and use. You can read my guide on how to set up and use the Fingerprint Sensor on your device.

In addition to these, there are a few other sensors and gesture controls bundled into this device. They include Light & proximity sensors, accelerometer, voice control, among others. These sensors allow for intelligent responses by the device, some of which are automatic.

A few others require user activity. For instance, there is support for Double Tap to Wake and 3-Fingers screenshot.

Well, we all love phones that ‘feed’ our eyes and ears. Streaming videos and listening to pleasant music or recording is something you can’t really take out of the collection. So, you had loved to keep your eyes on the audio and video qualities of this.

Let’s see how Spark 3 performs in this aspect.

Video Outputp4
Tecno Spark 3 supports major video file formats and most especially the portable MP4 format. This allows users to play their favourite videos without the fear of file format errors. And you can complement this with extensive media players such as VLC Player.

More so, the large viewport and screen resolution improves the display quality. The LCD screen largely improves the output quality with densely-packed pixels. However, the production quality of videos plays a role in how this device renders videos.

Overall, the video output of this device satisfies the minimum requirements for your video streaming needs.

Audio Output
Both for phone calls and audios, this device integrates the hardware to meet your needs. There’s a nicely tucked loudspeaker at the rear and an earpiece at the front. These hardware components richly provide controlled hearing of the songs you play with the device.

Additionally, noise reduction and sound control aid quality sound output with clarity. That allows users to turn-on the songs of their favourite artists and enjoy the rhythm.

In case you love a private adventure of songs and movies, you can always tuck the added earpiece into the device and your ear(s).

What do you think of Tecno Spark 3?

Well, you’ve seen it all! From the Operating System (OS) to the physical appearance, Spark 3 promises so much to its users. The processor, battery, RAM & ROM, Cameras and security utilities integrate nicely to improve user experience.

However, there are other things you will love to see in this device, e.g. Google Assistant Button, 4G Network, among others. What do think?
